- Still considered one of the finest cheeses in the world, Parmigiana Regianno is a hard cheese from the towns of Parma and Reggio Emilia in Italy. Authentic Parmigiana can be quite expensive, especially the longer it is aged. Make sure that the words ” Parmigiana-Regianno” is stamped into the rind.
- Fresh “Buffalo Mozzarella” is a delicious and well-known type of fresh cow’s milk cheese. Instead of the mozzarella, try its lesser known cousin Burrata. Burrata has a shell of mozzarella but is filled with a silky mixture of cream and mozzarella. Served at room temperature to obtain its full taste and lustrous texture, the cheese melts in your mouth.
- Stilton, the famous blue cheese of England is a classic choice. But for an alternative, choose Cabrales, the Spanish equivalent. Cabrales, is a mixture of goat, cow and sheep milk, has a semi-firm texture and a spicy flavor. The cheese is aged in the cold, humid atmosphere of caverns or caves of Cabrales and three villages of the Concejo de Peñamellera Alta.
- Not sure what to buy? If you don’t know the specific cheese tastes of the person to whom you are gifting, buy a gift card or certificate from a cheese shop or high-end grocery store. The gift certificate can be used at any time and allows the recipient to pick the specific cheeses they want. Anywhere between $20 and $40 will buy a number of different cheeses.
